Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

WHAT
At the conclusion of an AP course, students have the opportunity to take the corresponding AP Exam. AP Exams are two to three-hour exams, given in May, made up of multiple-choice and free-response (essay) questions. They are graded on a scale of 1 to 5, with 3 considered a "qualifying" score.
WHERE
AP Exams will be held on campus. (John F. Kennedy High School)
WHEN
May 4th to May 15th during the school day. Specific test date information is on line at collegeboard.com
WHO
Any student prepared to attempt any of the exams.
WHY
If your child receives a qualifying grade on an AP Exam, he/she may be eligible for advanced placement or course credits at the vast majority of colleges and universities in the United States. More than 1,400 institutions in the United States alone grant a full year’s credit to students with satisfactory grades on enough AP Exams. It’s called "sophomore standing."
COST
$ 84.00 per exam. (*reduced fees are available for students with financial need.) Payment must be received for the full amount for each exam taken. Please do not register unless you plan to take the exam.(** Complete refunds will not be given.) Cash or check will be accepted. (Checks written to: JFK AP FUND)
REGISTRATION
Students who wish to register for a test(s) must bring a check or cash to Mr. Eusebi in the student store at lunch during the week of March 3 to March 7. Don’t wait until the last day! Make sure you SAVE YOUR RECEIPT. It is your proof of payment. Bring your receipt on the day of the test!

*Financial need is most simply determined by a student qualifying for our free/reduced lunch program. If you think you might qualify, see Mr. Drotts in the counseling office for a waiver form as soon as possible. Parents need to submit a copy of a completed tax form for year 2008. (if not completed 2007 can be used)

** For registered test takers who do not choose to test. Refunds will only be given with a written parental request before the date of the test. A $20.00 fee per test will be assessed for refunds. This fee is passing on Collegeboard and Kennedy processing fees.
