In making the announcement, Harvard's president Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only ten percent of the students in elite higher education come from families in the lower half of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution."

If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free… no tuition and no student loans!

This national program stresses the value and reward of pursuing advanced technical degrees and careers while developing the skills necessary to achieve success in science and engineering. MITES is rooted in MIT's belief in the importance of students from diverse populations to pursue higher education and careers in these fields.

The program is 100% scholarship-based. Funding from industry, foundations, grants, individuals, and MIT covers all living and educational expenses for each admitted student. Students only pay for their transportation to and from MIT http://mit.edu.

Selected students build self-confidence in their ability to be successful in a demanding academic atmosphere, and have a chance to work with and befriend individuals of different racial, ethnic and other backgrounds. Although admission to MIT is not the focus of MITES, for its graduates, there is a strong record of successful admission to MIT and to other engineering and science universities.

You can access the student application here http://mit-mites.org/application/.

Kennedy High School. The new theater will allow students to train in a wide variety of theatrical, music and dance programs and is funded through Measure I funds approved in 2002. District officials also believe it will become a valuable community asset.

Construction requires driving 190 piles approximately 70 feet into the earth before laying the foundation. As workers drive the piles down to ensure a secure foundation in the soft earth, the ensuing noise may create curiosity and a temporary issue for community members.
Thus, district and construction company PCM3 staff are working to notify area residents, churches and businesses of the ongoing construction and the pile driving periods so they are aware of the project and the timing.
Media has already alerted residents to the temporary construction noise. Please note that this weekend pile driving will occur on:

Saturday, November 15 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday, November 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

PCM3 Senior Construction Manager Doug Henning said he expects to complete 10 percent of the piling work this weekend. The remainder of the pilings will be completed over the school’s winter break, Dec. 20 through Jan. 4. Work on the pilings can only be done during non-class time so student instruction is not interrupted.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
